Soon at Gallery Räyhä

09/08/2025

September 15 – October 5, 2025 In Turku, at the small but high-quality art gallery Räyhä, a solo exhibition of my eleven oil paintings will open. The exhibition is titled "I Look Back – Feminist Statements." Each piece in the exhibition is painted on thick wooden panels, carefully sanded, primed, and painted with oil colors. The works are protected with a thin layer of varnish and are ready to hang; they are not framed, but the edges are painted. Each piece is signed on the back, and you'll receive a certificate of authenticity upon purchase. The works can be collected after the exhibition ends.

"I Look Back" tells the stories of eleven women in different life situations and moments, from childhood to old age. The titles of the paintings offer hints, such as "Because of the Missing Point" or "When Everything Changed." The rest is left to the viewer, your imagination to interpret.

This exhibition is a statement about today's world and its perceptions of humanity, especially from a feminist perspective. Why do we so easily shrug, look away, and judge? Each piece in the exhibition touches on real life. Each woman, each girl in the paintings looks back and refuses to lower her gaze out of fear, invalidation, discrimination, or stigma. Every work is a powerful statement.

If you're interested, mark that time frame in your calendar now. I likely won't organize a formal opening event, but I'll be hanging the works on Monday, September 15, so feel free to stop by for a chat or to reserve a piece. All works in the exhibition will be available for purchase at an affordable price, in light of the financially challenging times we're living in.

So, take a stand and look back. Take care, with August greetings, Hanna 🥰
